When I was a child I would sit on the beach and stare out into the vastness of the ocean with a sense of awe. After some time, I would enter and surround myself with the rippling aquamarine water, as the reflecting light of the burning sun danced on the surface like a kaleidoscope all around me. These moments were magic. I discovered here natural rhythm, the ebb and flow of the tide, how my body related to the water, the quiet space between waves, seduction, longing, tranquility, immense power, unadulterated beauty, and my interconnection to something far greater than myself.
My art is an ongoing investigation of the space where the mystical and the worldly realms meet, and how my life is shaped by this intimate connection (point of contact). I consider my process a type of emotional alchemy, transmuting deep emotions, even subconscious, into something tactile, yet unbound. I often explore figurative shapes and otherworldly structures that offer shelter, symbolizing transformation and empowerment. I will continue to flush out my inner landscape, allowing my curiosity of what is possible, without overly intellectualizing the process, therefore keeping the work at its most honest state.
I wish even for a moment, my work may evoke a visceral experience in the viewer, subtle or strong, to their own connection to something innately sacred within themselves, in the quiet space between thoughts, as the ocean waves did for me.
